Events Officer

Reports to: Director of Donor Relations
Description: The Events Officer will advance the strategic and fundraising goals of the Advancement Division by helping develop an overall events strategy and protocol and coordinating a growing number of donor events on and off campus. An integral member of the Advancement team, the officer, under the supervision of the Director of Donor Relations, will work to design and execute events both large and small to steward college supporters and increase their engagement with Wheaton.
The officer will plan all event logistics, including audio-visual needs, speakers and other entertainment, printing, catering and menu planning, décor, rentals, and transportation as necessary. The officer will also staff many of these events, and, therefore, some night and weekend work is required, as is some travel. Working with the Director of Donor Relations, the officer will assess the effectiveness of events, measuring their impact on the division's strategic goals.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in related field and at least two years' experience in event organization and planning. Demonstrated ability to design special events and programs for diverse constituencies is required, as are excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication (both oral and written) skills. This position also demands the ability to work independently, juggle competing demands, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of academic and social protocol and recognition of the value or discretion and the need for confidentiality of donor information are required. The Events Officer also serves as an ambassador for the college, communicating key messages to donors and other constituents and relaying their requests for information, assistance, etc., back to the college. Excellent word processing skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, are needed; familiarity with Filemaker Pro is preferred.
