Women's cross country earns USTFCCCA All-Academic laurels

February 28, 2008

NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's cross country team was one of 143 squads from across Division III to earn U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honors for the 2007 season.

The Lyons were one of 17 New England teams to receive the award, as seven from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) drew the laurel. For a squad to be considered, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA regional meet. The team must also have a minimum 3.10 cumulative grade-point average.

Wheaton placed 12th out of 47 scoring squads at the NCAA Division III New England Championship on November 10 after coming in second among 10 teams at the NEWMAC meet on October 27. Sophomore Sarah Brand (Cincinnati, OH/Seven Hills School) led the Lyons in the classroom, earning her first NEWMAC Academic All-Conference nod.
