When do I have access to my stipend?

You are eligible to access to your Scholar stipend for an out-of-classroom experience in the summer of either your Sophomore or Junior year.

What if I need help exploring my out-of-class experience?

The staff at the Filene Center is eager to talk with you about all your options for out-of-class learning. You don't need to know what you want to explore in order to learn about how the staff and resources at the Filene Center can enhance your Wheaton experience. Please phone us at ext.8211 or just stop in to arrange a time to meet with one of the staff.

What Funding Opportunities Exist For Me As a First Year Student?

To help offset some of the expenses associated with having a summer out-of-classroom learning experience during your first year at Wheaton, the Filene Center administers a competition called the Wheaton Fellows Program. Selected recipients receive stipends for a range of summer out-of-classroom learning experiences. You are eligible to apply this year, because you are not yet eligible to apply for your Scholar stipend.

How Many Hours do I have to work at my site?

25-40 hours per week for a total of 6-8 weeks.

What if I cannot get these hours at one location?

Split the hours between two or more sites.

My internship is unpaid, but I am going to receive a travel stipend from the site?

This is considered a non-paying internship.

What type of experience counts as an out-of-classroom experience?

Your scholar stipend can be applied to a range of unpaid out-of-class learning experiences including internships, research, student-faculty collaborations, professional development activities and community service endeavors. If in doubt present your idea, in writing, to jrazee@wheatonma.edu for approval.

What forms are required to obtain my stipend?

I-9, W-4

Two forms of ID (license or passport and social security card) are required.
Must be completed, in person, at the Student Financial Services Office (SFO), located in the Doll's House-Bottom Floor

Bring completed form to Payroll Office located on second floor of Park Hall.

These two forms must be delivered to Judi Razee, Room 203a in the Kollett Center.

Accessing your stipend requires the coordination of work among four campus offices. Your ability to follow all the deadlines will ensure that you get your stipend. If you fail to follow all deadlines, the College reserves the right to deny you access to your stipend.

When Do I get paid?

If you meet the deadline of Friday, April 18th, you will receive a direct deposit on the first pay period in June, 2008.

Paperwork after that date, but before June 30th, will need to be reviewed with the Stipend Manager: jrazee@wheatonma.edu

What is the final date that I can access my scholar stipend?

No paperwork will be accepted after June 30.

What if I want to do independent research?

Independent research is allowable with the support of a Wheaton Professor(via e-mail) and must pertain to your field of studies or thesis development.

Are there any requirements when I access the money?

Yes, you must meet with the Stipend Coordinator to review and complete paperwork.

Are they any requirements when I have completed the internship?

Yes, you must complete a reflection essay and obtain a performance review or letter of reference from your supervisor?
