January 15, 2007

NORTON, MA- Sophomore forward Krystin Hickey (Manchester, NH/New Hampton School) became the Wheaton College women's basketball team's first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player-of-the-Week selection since the 2003-04 season for the week ending on Sunday, January 14.

Hickey, who was named NEWMAC Rookie of the Year a season ago, averaged 19.7 points while shooting an outstanding 68.6 percent from the field in helping the Lyons to their first 4-0 conference start since 1994-95. Making 24-of-35 shots from the field, 5-of-8 from the three-point arc and 6-of-7 from the free throw line, Hickey also averaged 4.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals in wins over league foes Mount Holyoke College, Wellesley College and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

In a 73-56 win over Wellesley on Tuesday, Hickey had a game-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding five rebounds, five assists and five steals in 26 minutes. At WPI on Thursday, she tallied a game-best 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting during a 58-53 win. In a clash between two first-place teams at Mount Holyoke Saturday, Hickey went 6-of-9, including 3-of-4 from deep, in tallying 17 points. She added five boards and two blocks in 29 minutes.

The NEWMAC's field goal percentage leader at 54.3 percent, Hickey is also sixth in free throw percentage, 10th in scoring and tied for 10th in three-point field goals made per game. She has also helped the Lyons to the league's top team field goal and three-point field goal percentages. Wheaton is second in scoring offense, free throw percentage and opponent rebounds per game.

The Lyons look to extend their winning streak to six games on Wednesday against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Emerson Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
