Hickey named to D3hoops.com Team of the Week for first timeMarch 5, 2008
While pushing Wheaton to a 3-0 mark during the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament, Hickey averaged 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists, shooting 62.5 percent (20-32) from the floor. The Lyons won their initial NEWMAC crown, capturing the program's first league title in 13 seasons. Despite playing only 28 minutes, Hickey nearly notched a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in Wheaton's 79-36 first-round win over Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on Wednesday. During a 59-53 semifinal victory over Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) on Saturday, Hickey recorded 16 points and eight rebounds while shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Against Springfield College in the tournament title game, Hickey shot 7-of-11 for 15 points while adding five assists in a 74-69 triumph, recording a key three-point play with 53.4 seconds left that pushed Wheaton's lead to four. Hickey leads the squad in scoring (13.4) and both field goal (.520) and three-point (.456) percentages. She is also second on the team in rebounding (5.8) and third in each assists (73) and steals (38) while appearing in 29.2 minutes per contest. Wheaton is 22-6, having recorded the third-most wins in program history and reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 1994-95. The Lyons will compete this weekend in their third NCAA Tournament, taking on Tufts University in the first round on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in a contest at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York.
