Women's lacrosse, Grant honored by IWLCA for academic excellenceAugust 14, 2008 NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College women's lacrosse team and rising senior Caitlin Grant (Walpole, MA/Walpole) were honored for academic excellence by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Lyons were one of 56 IWLCA Academic Squads after posting a 3.09 grade-point average during the spring semester. Grant was among 172 Division III student-athletes to earn a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll. Wheaton joined three other New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) schools as an Academic Squad by posting a GPA during the second semester of 3.0 or higher. Grant was one of only six league players to earn the distinction, which requires student-athletes to hold junior or senior academic standing and achieve a GPA of at least 3.2 for the spring semester. Named to NEWMAC All-Conference and NEWMAC Academic All-Conference teams earlier in the spring, Grant turned in a 3.83 GPA last semester while pursuing a degree in economics. She led the Lyons with a career-high 33 goals and was second in points with a career-best 35. Wheaton went 7-10 as a team during the year, including recording a 3-3 mark in the NEWMAC. The Blue and White tied for third in the regular season conference standings while hosting a league tournament game for the ninth successive spring. This page is maintained by Scott Dietz.
