Wheaton's Ibric to receive national television exposure on ESPN ClassicMay 14, 2008
The May edition of NCAA On Campus premieres Wednesday, May 21 at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN Classic and will re-air multiple times on ESPNU. NCAA On Campus can also be viewed on the Web by visiting NCAA.org. A Bosnian refugee and sophomore All-American, Ibric fled his war-torn native land with his family and arrived in the United States in 1998. Ibric's journey, which was filled with many challenges and triumphs, is documented on the show. After graduating from Revere High, Ibric spent a postgraduate year at Phillips Academy, a prestigious boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts. Upon learning more about Wheaton's athletic program, academic offerings and size, Ibric decided to enroll at the Norton school. An outspoken activist against genocide as well as an academic scholar and NCAA Championship-caliber athlete, Ibric reached the Dean's List while earning All-America honors in the 400-meter dash. The international relations major has his eye on becoming Division III's top 400M runner and hopes one day he'll compete for the Bosnian national team. In the midst of writing a book called Running for My Life, Ibric, who is now a U.S. citizen, is already trying to make an impact on the world. Last fall, he joined Boston-area genocide survivors in a march against genocide. Ibric represented Bosnia, spoke at the demonstration and lit a torch to encourage 2008 Olympics host China to use its influence on the Sudan to address the crisis there. In addition to Ibric being featured on the show, six Wheaton athletes were interviewed on tape for a segment called "What's On, On Campus," which asks students questions regarding what's on their iPods and TiVos, what their favorite movies or TV shows are, and what's on their reading lists.
