Wheaton in Cortona
Affiliated with the Lamar Dodd School of Art, The University of Georgia, Athens
Profile: The Cortona Program has been a leader in arts education for 36 years. Each year, approximately 200 students from around the United States take courses in areas such as ceramics, papermaking, book arts, and sculpture. This program is possibly the most comprehensive Fine Arts program in Italy. Students are housed in a renovated 15th Century monastery with stunning views of the plains around Cortona. Overall students are able to bring the art experience to life as they live and learn on the Cortona Program.
Location: The program is located in Cortona, Italy. Situated in the Tuscan region of Italy, students become immersed in an Italian community. Cortona was referred to by the Greeks as the "metropolis of the Tyrrhenians." It was also an important part of Italy's art history and you will find important paintings in Cortona's Museo Diocesano even today.
