Denmark's International Study Program (DIS)

Profile: Denmark's International Study Program (DIS) was founded in 1959 and is one of Europe's oldest study abroad programs. DIS is affiliated with the University of Copenhagen and has had over 20,000 students study through the program. Students participate in a curriculum taught in English that focuses on European issues and themes alongside 400-450 students from 120 different universities.

Location: DIS is located in the heart of Denmark's capital of Copenhagen. Copenhagen is a European city filled with opportunities to experience theatre, music, and all the offerings of a metropolitan city of 1.5 million people. Since Denmark is part of both the EU & NATO, students have a unique opportunity to gain an indepth international perspective.

Duration: Academic Year, Fall, or Spring semesters

Program dates:
Fall 2009: August 29 - December 20, 2009
Spring 2010: January 16 - May 16, 2010

Courses & credit: Students enroll in five 3-credit courses per semester, which earn 4.0 Wheaton credits. All courses are taught in English.

Admission requirements: Juniors or seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Students enrolling in the DIS Marine & Environmental Biology or Medical Practice & Policy programs must have completed one year of biology and one semester of chemistry, including at least one lab course. European Politics program applicants must have completed an intro political science course plus a course in International Relations or Comparative Politics. Other prerequisites may exist, therefore students should check the DIS website for specific information on each course.

Housing & board: Students live with Danish host families in order to gain an in-depth cultural experience, or in shared student residences called a Kollegium, A Danish Roommate Stay, or FolkehÃ∞¸jskole Stay. Full Board is included with host families only.

Fees: Wheaton tuition and housing. Expenses covered include tuition, housing, round-trip group flight from Boston or New York, and one program excursion per semester.

Other Expenses: Students are responsible for board, passport and visa fees,round-trip airfare to Wheaton group flight departure city, supplemental study abroad insurance, personal expenses & any optional study tour or adventure trip expenses.
