Wheaton in Ferrara

Middlebury College affiliation with the University of Ferrara

Profile: The Middlebury College Program in Ferrara provides a unique experience in which students study Italian and become a part of the Italian community. The city of Ferrara has a population of 130,000 and provides a university town backdrop for study abroad. It is an opportunity to find yourself as one of very few Americans as you build your Italian language fluency within this wonderful Italian town.

Location: Ferrara is situated along the Po River and is only thirty minutes from Bologna and one hour from Venice, Italy. It was once described as „the first modern city of Europe.‰ The city is unique in that automobiles are absent from within the city walls. Instead bicycles are used as the primary mode of transportation and a great way to see what the city has to offer. Ferrara is home to a wonderful cathedral, museums, shops, and cafes that line the city streets.
