Profile: The University of Sussex in Brighton is one of England's leading teaching and research universities. Founded in the 1960's it is a newer university characterized by innovative approaches to learning. Studies at Sussex are interdisciplinary in focus, encouraging students to explore their academic interests from the perspective of more than one subject. There are over 2,300 international students and faculty from 40 nations, including two Nobel Prize winners in the sciences (Sir John Cornforth and Sir Harry Kroto). The campus borders Sussex Downs, an area of rolling hills, farms, villages and vineyards, a popular landscape for students who like to bike or hike! Just a few minutes away is the lively city of Brighton and Hove.
Location: Located on the south coast, less than one hour from London, Brighton has been nicknamed "London by The Sea." It is a vibrant city offering cafe culture, beachfront and a relaxed pace of life. Historically, it was a strategically important location for trade and governance during Roman and Saxon times. In the 1820's it became a fashionable resort when the Prince Regent (King George IV) built a home, the Royal Pavilion, a Brighton Landmark famous for its lavish oriental architecture. Today, Brighton is one of the most active arts centers outside London with numerous theaters, cinemas, concert halls, and art galleries. There are three major institutions of higher education making Brighton a center for student life.

September in Sussex (for AY and Fall): September 4th-25th, 2009 (required + Autumn Term)
Autumn Term: October 5 - December 11, 2009
Two Terms Spring & Summer: January 11 - June 25, 2010
Courses & credit: Students completing a full-time normal course load for a Full Year will receive 8.0 Wheaton credits; 4.0 Wheaton credits will be awarded for the combined September in Sussex and Autumn Term; Spring and Summer Terms students may earn 4.0 to 4.5 Wheaton credits. Admission requirements: Minimum GPA of 3.0, with foundation courses completed in proposed studies.
Housing & board: Students reside in University Halls, which are self-catering. Students handle their own meals and costs.
Fees: Wheaton Fees for Tuition and Housing. Expenses covered include: Tuition, housing and the International Student Identity Card (ISIC).
Other Expenses: Students are responsible for the costs of meals, round-trip domestic and overseas transportation, passport and visa fees, local transportation, books and supplies, required CISI Supplemental Overseas Health Insurance and personal expenses. Students are responsible for expenses during vacation periods between Terms, unless otherwise indicated.

Housing Information
Courses of study:
Humanities: Traditional academic disciplines, plus performing and creative arts. Students may focus on cinema and the study of visual culture.
Life Sciences: Biochemistry, Biology and Environmental Science, Chemistry, and Psychology. Linked to the School for Science and Technology in joint research in the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience and Robotics.
Social Sciences and Cultural Studies: Core subjects, plus interdisciplinary studies in Contemporary European Studies, Development Studies, Gender Studies and Cultural Studies.
Science and Technology: Engineering, Informatics, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy. Scientific Computing and Bioinformatics Departments jointly sponsor research in Sussex's Center for Space Science.
Sussex in September:
This program is designed for visiting students who will enroll in the Autumn Term. Combined with Autumn Term courses a full semester of credit will be awarded (4.0 Wheaton credits).
