Getting Started
Finding Books, Videos, Music Recordings and Scores: HELIN
HELIN is the library catalog for the Wheaton library and other libraries in the HELIN consortium. Access the HELIN catalog from the Library Home Page. Use HELIN to locate books, scores, CD's, videos and DVD's. If Wheaton does not what you need, you may request it from another HELIN library from within the catalog. If no HELIN library owns what you need, you may request to borrow a book from another library.
Finding Articles: Electronic Databases
To find journal articles on a particular topic, search one of the library's Electronic Databases. Some databases include full-text articles, some provide citations only. To locate the full text of the article, search Journal Finder for the title of the periodical (see below for instructions). For help searching specific databases, see the Resource Guides or contact your Liaison Librarian.
Locating Full Text Articles: Journal Finder
Not all databases provide full articles, some may only give citations. To locate the full text of an article, search Journal Finder (located on the library homepage) for the title of the journal and look to see if Wheaton subscribes to the year you need. If it is available electronically, you can link directly from Journal Finder. Periodicals in print after 1995 are located on the periodicals floor, periodicals in print from 1900-1994 are on the stacks level. If Wheaton does not own the issue with your article, you may order your article from another library.
Getting Research Help
Library Liaisons
There are several librarians at the Wallace library who specialize in different subjects. You can call or email the liaison for your subject and make an appointment to get personalized help with your research. You can also just stop by when you are in the library, and get help on short notice if your liaison is free.
Information Desk
The information desk, located in the library atrium on the main level, is staffed with librarians who can help you with research questions, library services, or help you get in touch with the appropriate liaison to help you with more involved research. No appointment necessary, just bring your question to the person at the information desk, who is there to help!
Getting Around the Library
The Wallace Library has 6 floors. From the bottom up they are the stacks level, the archives, the periodical level, the main level, and two mezzanines, which house the fine art books (call number N). You can always ask at the circulation desk or information desk for help finding something in the library.
