Black History Month draws alums

Rose Weaver '73 and Shawn Boone '00 returned to campus to talk about--and celebrate--art, culture, race, sex and religion. The graduates offered students glimpses into the personal struggles and triumphs of their lives. Weaver is an actress, writer and educator who presented "Up by My Bootstraps: Self-Reflection through Dramatic Writings and Songs," to a capacity crowd in Mary Lyon Hall.

A hundred yards of glory

Alum Jessica Johnson '98 (pictured at right), one of Wheaton's most talented softball players and a fixture in the record books, went footloose on the football field. Her foray into professional football--what was once viewed as boys-only play-- challenged her athletically and engaged her competitive spirit, she said.

Wheaton is a campus with a plan. Dreams of an outdoor track, a visitors' center and carefully expanded green spaces are closer than you may think.
